What are the standard sizes for interior doors?
Standard interior door sizes are typically 80” tall and range from 24” to 36” wide. The most common is 30” x 80”. For a full breakdown of size options, see What Size Door Do I Need? (Chart & Guide) or Find the Perfect Fit: A Simple Guide to Door Sizes.
How do I measure for a new interior door?
Measure the width, height, and thickness of the existing slab. If you’re ordering a prehung door, measure the rough opening. Get step-by-step instructions in Choosing the Right Size Door for Your Interior or Exterior Prehung Door.
What’s the difference between a slab and a prehung interior door?
A slab is just the door panel. A prehung comes already mounted in a frame with hinges. Learn more in Slab and Prehung Doors – What’s the Difference and What You’re Getting.
Should I choose a slab or prehung interior door for my home?
If you’re replacing an existing door and the door frame (a.k.a. “door jamb)” is in good shape, choose a slab or “book” door. For new construction, or if the frame/jamb needs replacing, choose a prehung door. For a visual comparison see a Book vs. Prehung Door Side by Side. For more info. see our Prehung vs Slab Doors: A Guide to Understanding What’s Best for Your Home.
Can I order more than one frosted glass interior door at a time?
Yes, you can order multiple doors, but they need to be placed as individual orders for either one door, or one pair, at a time. This is because for safe shipping, we typically send one door—or one pair—per pallet. In some cases, we can securely ship up to three doors together depending on their sizes and weights. If we’re able to combine shipping and there’s a savings, we will deduct it from your grand total and run the charge on your card for the lesser amount. (Your card is NOT charged at the time of purchase. It’s charged later, when we process your order after reviewing all the specs and information.)
Can these frosted glass interior doors be used as a pocket door?
Yes! You’ll want to order a slab (also called a “book”) door. While we don’t sell pocket door hardware, your installer should easily be able to source it, or it can be purchased online. One option is available here: Pocket door hardware on Amazon.
Can I install a frosted glass interior door myself, or should I hire a professional?
Yes, if you’re experienced and have the right tools. Otherwise, we recommend hiring a professional. Tips and installation guidance can be found in Installing Your Frosted Glass Interior Door: Slab and Prehung.
How much privacy does a frosted glass interior door provide?
Frosted glass is very private—objects only become visible if they’re pressed right up against the glass. Just a few inches away from the glass, and objects blur then disappear entirely. For side-by-side comparisons of our glass effects, Click to Learn More About Our Various Types of Privacy Glass.
Can you see through frosted glass interior doors at night when the lights are on?
No. Our 100% private frosted glass remains fully obscure, even at night with lights on—unless something is directly up against the glass. To see how it works, check out Can You See Through Frosted Glass Doors?
Is the glass in your interior doors tempered for safety?
Yes. All our frosted glass interior doors feature tempered safety glass, which is four times stronger than standard glass and designed to break safely if ever damaged.
Are frosted glass interior doors safe and durable for everyday use?
Yes. Our frosted glass interior doors are made from tempered safety glass, and our designs are sandblasted into the glass, meaning they’re permanently etched and/or carved into the surface—they won’t peel, fade, or wear off with daily use. The wood door features a 9-1/4″ tall bottom rail, often called a “toe kick,” so the glass sits high enough that if the bottom of the door is accidentally kicked, it’s the wood that takes the impact—not the glass. And even then, the glass is tempered, which is extremely strong and resistant to breakage. Glass is only truly vulnerable at the edges.
Can I get a custom design on my frosted glass interior door?
Yes! In fact, that’s our specialty, and it’s how all our designs came to be! Each one was originally designed and created as a custom order for a specific client. If you have a specific idea or image in mind, we can create a one-of-a-kind custom design just for you. All artwork is hand-drawn—not clip art—and made to fit your exact glass size. As of April 2025, the minimum custom drawing and design fee is $375. Depending on the size and complexity of the design, the fee typically ranges between $375 to $800. To begin the process, Request a Quote for a Custom Design.
How do I choose a frosted glass interior door design that matches my home’s style?
Start by considering your home’s decor—whether it’s rustic, modern, or traditional—and explore frosted glass designs that complement your aesthetic. For inspiration, browse our style-specific blogs including Farmhouse Style Frosted Glass Doors, Coastal or Beach Style Frosted Glass Doors, Industrial Style Frosted Glass Doors, Mid-Century Modern Frosted Glass Doors, Rustic Ranch Style Frosted Glass Doors, Vintage Style Frosted Glass Doors: Victorian, Asian Decor Frosted Glass Doors for Your Zen Home, French Country Frosted Glass Doors and Art Deco Frosted Glass Doors.
Will a frosted glass interior door reduce natural light in my room?
No. Frosted glass reduces glare and diffuses natural light beautifully, but does not “block light”, allowing brightness to flow through while still providing privacy. Learn more in Learn More About the Benefits of Frosted Glass.
Are your frosted glass interior doors solid wood?
Our frosted glass interior doors are SOLID CORE veneer doors that are FAR LESS PRONE to warping than solid “WOOD” that WILL WARP over time. The CORE is called an “Engineered Wood Substrate” that is a man-made core material made of layered wood fibers that are compressed and bonded together, making it highly stable and resistant to warping over time.
What type of door material should I buy if I’m painting my frosted glass interior door?
Primed. The door will be just that: primed white for painting. The white paint is a primer only and not a final, finish paint.
How do I clean and maintain a frosted glass interior door?
Frosted glass is easy to clean! You can clean your frosted glass with any regular, quality glass cleaner such as Windex. Use a soft cloth or paper towel—never anything abrasive. Because our designs are sandblasted into the glass surface, the frosting is durable, 100% permanent and won’t peel or fade. For more tips, see How to Clean Frosted Glass: The Ultimate Guide! Top 19 FAQs.
Can I replace the glass in my existing interior door with frosted glass?
Yes, as long as the existing door has a removable glass insert. We can create a frosted glass insert to fit your opening. Not all door frames are designed for glass replacement, so be sure to consult your installer before ordering. To explore design options, visit our page for Interior Door Glass Inserts. You’ll be able to specify your exact glass sizes. To make it easy, use our Glass Size Calculator—just enter your frame opening dimensions and we’ll generate a reliable glass size for you.
How thick is the glass in your frosted glass interior doors?
The glass in our frosted glass interior doors will be 1/8″ thick tempered glass for our 1D and 2D Shaded designs, and 3/8″ thick tempered glass for our 3D designs.
Do you offer interior doors with specific words like “Pantry” or “Laundry” on the glass?
Yes! Our Pantry Doors, Laundry Room Doors and Bathroom Doors are among our most popular products! These frosted glass interior door designs feature text like “Pantry,” “Laundry,” “Office,” or “Bathroom.” You can also specify custom wording to match any room or purpose in our fun, easy-to-use Door Designers!
Can I get the same frosted glass design on different types of products?
Yes—this is one of the things that truly sets us apart! We can carry your frosted glass design across front doors, interior doors, windows, shower doors, showers, glass shower partitions, decorative mirrors, glass tables and more, creating a beautifully cohesive, custom look throughout your home or space. Whether you want a repeating motif, a design that flows from one piece to the next, or matching elements across multiple rooms, we can make it happen. It’s not just glass—it’s a work of art brought to life on every surface.
How much does a frosted glass interior door cost?
Pricing depends on the door material, size, and the frosted glass effect you choose. As of April 2025, a 28 x 80 interior door featuring a popular, average complexity design (such as Palm Sunset) ranges from $1,146 for our 1D Effect, up to $3,680 for our 3D Carved, Shaded & Painted effect with a Gluechipped background—the most detailed and labor-intensive option—with multiple price points in between. All of our designs are customizable, and as you build your frosted glass interior door online, both the price and estimated lead time update in real time.
Will a frosted glass interior door increase the value of my home?
Yes. When you buy a frosted glass interior door by Sans Soucie Art Glass, you’re buying a handcrafted, one-of-a-kind work of functional art—not a mass-produced or commonly seen door. It instantly elevates the look and feel of your space, adding both beauty and value to your home.
What is the lead time for a frosted glass interior door?
Lead times vary depending on the door material, sandblast effect and design complexity. Most frosted glass interior doors ship within 3 to 6 weeks. As you build your door in our online Door Designer, the estimated lead time updates in real time based on your selections. For a full breakdown of what affects timing, see About Our Lead Times
Do frosted glass interior doors help with sound insulation?
While not soundproof, our frosted glass interior doors do help reduce sound transfer compared to hollow-core doors. Their solid core construction and tempered glass provide a heavier, more substantial barrier that softens noise between rooms. The glass itself—1/8″ thick for 1D and 2D designs, and 3/8″ thick for 3D designs—adds to the door’s ability to dampen sound. For more information on the sound insulation properties of glass and wood doors, you can refer to this article.

Understanding the difference between prehung and slab doors is crucial for selecting your frosted glass door:
- Slab Doors: Simply the door itself, perfect for replacing an old door if the frame is in good condition. Each frosted glass interior door slab can be ordered to fit your existing frame.
- Prehung Doors: Your frosted glass door will come hinged to a frame, making for an easy installation. Ideal for new construction or if your door frame (a.k.a. “jamb”) is damaged and needs replacing.
