In 1985, Whig Hall and Clio Hall, were designed by A. Page Brown as a pair of identical debate clubs. The American Whig-Cliosophic Society is now housed in the Whig Hall, until a fire completely destroyed the interior of the building in 1969. It was rebuilt in 1971 and has undergone no renovations of significance in nearly 40 years. When the university decided to rebuild, they took out the east hall to make the building more visible for students.
